Seminar with Dr. John Riggs Sandan, Aikido
Association of America (AAA) Proceeds benefit the Project Action charity.
Dr. John Riggs, sensei has been studying Aikido for 15 years. He currently holds the rank of sandan through the World Headquarters Aikikai (founding organization) and trains and ranks under the direction of Fumio Toyoda, shihan, the founder and head of the Aikido Association of America. Most of his Aikido training was obtained in Southern California where he had the opportunity to participate in numerous seminars with high-ranking shihans and senior instructors. He has trained in several Aikido organizations including Ki Society, Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, and AAA. Dr. Riggs has been teaching Aikido since 1995 and has served as co-chief instructor of Memphis Aikikai (Memphis, TN) and chief instructor of the Aikido Club of Austin and Aikido of Waco. He has trained 5 students to black belt level, as well as several brown belts. Sensei Riggs has also trained in Tai Chi, Tae kwan do, Shotokan karate, and Kali-lua do. Sensei Riggs believes in developing a solid foundation of basics with an emphasis on learning to effectively set up techniques through proper body, hand and foot movement. He integrates the use of weapons and atemi-waza (striking) in his technique. Dr. Riggs is a chiropractor and has published two articles on injuries in Aikido Today Magazine and is currently working on an article on atemi-waza applications in Aikido.
